Together globally: DGKL in an international environment

In order to ensure the best possible prevention, diagnosis and treatment for patients, the cross-border exchange of knowledge is now more important than ever. The DGKL is therefore intensively involved at an international level in order to help shape medical progress globally and integrate innovations into domestic care.

We see ourselves as a strong partner in the global healthcare network and play a key role in representing the interests of our members on international committees. Our international focus areas at a glance:

Global partnerships & memberships

As a national specialist society, we are a proud member of the leading global and European umbrella organizations in our field. We are actively involved in the EFLM(European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine) and the IFCC(International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine). Through these close networks, we combine our strengths for research, standardization and clinical practice.

Strong personal presence in international committees

Our company contributes its expertise not only in terms of content, but also at the highest representative level in the international associations:

  • Our current President, Prof. Dr. Mariam Klouche, has been the official National Representative for many years and thus forms an important link between our national work and the global associations.
  • We are also particularly proud that our long-standing member and current treasurer, Prof. Dr. Matthias F. Bauer, can now also contribute his extensive expertise to the EFLM and currently holds the important office of treasurer at the EFLM.

Responsibility for global health

Global challenges in healthcare – whether it is dealing with pandemics, antibiotic resistance or combating infectious diseases – require global and coordinated responses. As a medical society, we are committed to the importance of global health. We are committed to promoting equitable access to high-quality diagnostics worldwide, helping to shape global health strategies and transferring knowledge to regions with fewer resources.

Common guidelines & quality standards

Diseases do not stop at national borders – nor should our standards. Our experts are actively involved in international EFLM and IFCC committees to develop and harmonize global, evidence-based treatment and laboratory guidelines.
