Digitalization is also playing an increasingly important role in the laboratory. The DGKL supports this development and recognizes outstanding scientific achievements in the field of digitalization and AI applications in laboratory medicine with the Digital Laboratory Award. The award was presented for the first time in 2024.
The final application deadline for the 2026 award is April 15, 2026.

The Limbach Group emerged from the merger of independent laboratories throughout Germany and is the largest owner-managed laboratory group covering the entire spectrum of laboratory diagnostics. The MVZ Dr. Limbach und Kollegen was founded in 1979 by Dr. med. Hans Jakob Limbach in Heidelberg. To date, many other laboratories have been added throughout Germany.

Award
The prize is awarded annually on the occasion of the annual conference of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) by the Presidium of the DGKL and can be shared.
Invitation to tender
A scientific paper that has been published or accepted for publication, including an abstract, must not be older than two years at the time of application. Several papers that have been published over a longer period of time and deal comprehensively with a specific field of work can also be awarded. The focus is on process/interface optimization in the laboratory, such as the detection of pre-analytical errors, analysis of measurement results, preparation of findings, consultation with the sender, etc. using digitalized processes and/or innovative AI models. The submitted scientific work must originate from an institution in Germany or have been produced in cooperation with such an institution. The papers must be submitted to the Presidium of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine together with a brief description of the applicant’s professional career and, if applicable, a list of publications.

The prize will be awarded at the DKLM 2026 on September 30, 2026 in Hamburg.
The final deadline for submissions is April 15, 2026. Submissions can be sent digitally to preise@dgkl.de.
