Award Winners 2024

2024 Annika Meyer, Cologne

for her research on the potential applications of AI-based chatbots in laboratory medicine and other fields:

  • In one of her studies, she compared the responses of AI-based chatbots with those of doctors to laboratory questions posed by patients in an online forum about their laboratory values. The analysis showed that while chatbots often provided more empathetic responses, they lagged behind medical experts in terms of medical accuracy and reliability of answers.
  • Another work by Ms. Meyer with the intriguing title “Dear ChatGPT – can you teach me how to program an app for laboratory medicine?” deals with the application of ChatGPT for programming a Shiny app application for intra-assay and inter-device precision determinations, using immunophenotyping as an example.
Dr. Jan-Niklas Eckardt, Dresden
Dr. Moritz Middeke, Dresden
for their work on optimizing
diagnostic workflows in acute leukemias through the use of innovative AI applications.
