Hemostaseology
“Whether bleeding or vascular occlusion – there’s no way around the coagulation laboratory”
The section sees itself as a point of contact for research and routine work in the field of hemostaseology. The work of the section aims to support colleagues in both hospital and private laboratories in their daily work, for example by providing practice-relevant work instructions for the various areas of hemostaseology.
Hemostaseology is linked to almost all clinical areas and fundamental subjects such as physiology and pharmacology like hardly any other field of laboratory medicine. In everyday practice, questions about pre-analytics (method of blood collection and the necessary equipment, vessels, material transport), analytics per se (internal laboratory workflow, measurement methodology), and especially post-analytics (result interpretation in close contact with senders) play a central role. The complex process of ‘coagulation’ and the resulting analytical peculiarities repeatedly pose challenges for medical technical assistants (MTAs) and laboratory physicians or clinical chemists. Additionally, all laboratories involved in diagnostics are put to the test on a daily basis by ever-new therapeutic approaches.
Special work tasks are handled in working groups.
Activities:
- Meetings / Web or telephone conferences of the working groups
- Every two years: Symposium of the section
- Alternating with the symposium: WetLab
