Quality Requirements Outside the Laboratory

The section ‘Extra-analytical Quality’ was formed based on the previously existing working group for Preanalytic. This section focuses on central aspects of pre- and post-analytics in laboratory medicine. The following objectives are currently being pursued:

• The compendium ‘The Quality of Diagnostic Samples’, already authored by the ‘Pre-analytics’ working group in cooperation with BD, is going to be transferred to new media formats (e.g., mobile app).
• The establishment of a standard catalog for stability testing in coordination with the European activities
• The development of a proficiency test for pre-analytics
• Standard-based continuing education presentations for doctors, MTAs, BMAs, and nursing staff
• The harmonization of color coding for blood collection tubes
  Position paper on the standardization of cap colors / PDF

In 2017, the section published a standard operating procedure for peripheral venous blood collection for laboratory medical diagnostics with De Gruyter publishing house. The PDF is available here.
