Collection and reuse of biological materials
The section currently pursues the following objectives:
- Networking of DGKL biobank activities with national and international biobank initiatives (e.g., TMF Biobank Working Group, BBMRI, ISBER)
- Coordination of biobank activities within laboratory medicine
- Standardization of organization, structure, and operation of biomaterial banks:
- Harmonization of legal, ethical, and data protection aspects for the establishment and operation of biobanks
- Know-how transfer between existing/emerging and potential new biobank initiatives within laboratory medicine
- Implementation and development of biobank standards
- Creation of SOPs
- Quality assurance and quality management of biobanks:
- Establishment and implementation of proficiency testing for quality assurance of, e.g., transport, storage, and processing of biomaterials for both DGKL members and other specialties
- Strategic alignment and bundling of biobank activities within laboratory medicine with regard to:
- Successful application for national and international funding initiatives to establish a biobank infrastructure
- Strengthening laboratory medicine at medical faculties by developing biobank service offerings for better integration of laboratory medicine as a partner in translational clinical research
